What a glorious day!

Jesus...
When did you decide that the moment was finally right to come down to earth? You came during a seemingly random time in history, especially Israel's history. What was the trigger? Had you been waiting for Mary to be born and come of age so that you could come through a humble, devoted, young girl from the line of King David? Was Mary even an ancestor of David herself? I know that the reason, or one of them, that she married Joseph was because he was an ancestor of David. Your ancestry was royal from all sides. Were Mary and Joseph of the same tribe? I don't know... In which case, I will deduce that it was vital (for more than one reason) that Joseph follow through with his engagement. "...what God has done in fulfillment of his promises" (Luke 1). You are faithful. You always keep your promises. You had promised for many generations, for many millenia, that you would send a Messiah, a Savior, to redeem and save us sinners. There had been many prophecies about him. You made the criteria very specific. Jesus, you had been waiting for the exact moment in history that would require faith. You fulfilled all the prophecies, every single one. You set an example in life, a standard to live by. You died to save us from our inevitable death. You love us unconditionally, before we ever knew you or knew your love or loved you in return. What is this love? It breaks through time and space simply to be with us. Across generations and galaxies. You have come to save us. What would we be without you? What would we be without this night? We would be lost. Lost to death. A child so unique yet so physically ordinary. A king on the inside. Yet no one knew but Mary and Joseph. Your future had been written out for you. What if Mary had said no? God still would have found a way. He is persistent. You are persistent. You sent your son so that we might live with you. ARe we that important that you would send him to earth, knowing the outcome? Knowing that he would die? Was it inevitable? Oh how you love! Sacrificial love. A baby, born this night, is the epitome, the symbol of love, and the ultimate sacrifice. Baby Immanuel: sacrifical love, eternal love. Love that ventured generations to find us. Love that moved heaven and earth to find us. Love that ripped through time and space to be with us. Thank you. No one will ever know the amount  of your sacrifice. You are good. You are faithful. You are patient. You are loving. You are perfect. Thank you. The perfect savior. I love you.
